Playtime 2 is here! Alarm clocks and more
This major update expands the Playtime collection to FIFTY Playdate clocks... and more importantly, as of Playtime version 2, they are all now ALARM clocks.
Existing owners can upgrade to Playtime 2 for free: check for updates in the app by pressing (A) on the Settings screen, or just visit the Playtime itch page and download directly. Sideload the app as usual, and it will replace version 1 automatically.
I designed the alarm system with some unique features designed to help you use the alarm even when half asleep. Here's how it works:
• Your alarm settings are remembered even when you change clocks.
• You can customize your snoozing: choose none, unlimited snooze, or limited to just one or two snoozes.
• There is a different alarm sound for when snooze is possible vs, when it's not.
• To make sure you don't shut the alarm off completely by accident, the Playdate buttons will only snooze it. To stop the alarm completely, just undock and redock the crank. Still easy, but requires a little more conscious intention.
• After changing alarm settings, a clear summary is shown, with icons for the different snooze modes.
• You can test the alarm sound in advance, and adjust the volume if you wish.
• If you're not plugged into power (recommended but not required), a note reminds you of that.
• If you're not actually running a clock (you're looking at the clock gallery or settings, for instance), you're shown a reminder to start a clock.
• When the alarm goes off, Playtime offers to set the same alarm for tomorrow if you wish, or leave it off.
I've also refined the UI, sounds, and built-in documentation a little. UI sounds are quieter now. The alarm is full volume! But you can still adjust the Playdate's volume as usual.
