Playtime: a mini-postmortem
I thought a clock app might make a nice learning project for Playdate—something simpler than a game. Well... I didn't make something simpler than a game!
The project’s 336 files include 8 custom fonts, 290 PNGs (39 are tables) containing 500 images, and 12 Lua files with around 4700 lines of code.
Thanks to Panic for making this great machine and amazing dev tools (to go with it! Thanks also to my beta testers who gave Playtime so much time and attention, and caught some tricky issues! Especially Foster Douglas of Everyday Lemonade and Minnie.
My main dev tools: Panic's Nova code editor, Photoshop, Illustrator, and a bit of GarageBand for working out the notes for the sounds. Some of these clocks started life years ago—in full color!—as web apps for Apple Watch.
I've been posting work-in-progress throughout the project on the Playdate Developer Forums.
